With the release of Netflix’s documentary Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, which revisits his NBA career, struggles with addiction, and near-fatal overdose, Lamar Odom is once again making headlines around the world. Due to the dramatic title, there has been a lot of uncertainty on the internet, with many people asking if he has passed away.
Following the publication of a new Netflix documentary, confusion about Lamar Odom’s health and status became viral online, prompting many users to wonder, “Did Lamar Odom die?”
The former NBA player is still “Lamar Odom is the subject of a new Netflix documentary: Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, telling the story behind the former 14-year NBA star and his struggles with addiction,” according to coverage of the release.
Viewers have misunderstood the title itself, believing it refers to his death rather than his survival story.
The question arose mostly as a result of facts about Odom’s 2015 medical emergency, a heroin overdose that nearly killed him, resurfacing. The documentary’s poignant presentation has contributed to the quick dissemination of false information on social media. Despite a protracted and difficult recuperation procedure, Odom actually survived the incident and is still alive today.
After reportedly utilising drugs, Odom was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel in October 2015. His survival was extremely dubious because doctors later proved that oxygen deprivation caused serious damage to his brain and organs.
In a USA TODAY interview referenced in reporting on the documentary, Odom stated:
“I was telling my girlfriend on the way here, it’s like swimming in a cesspool of trauma. And I’m trying to get out of it, but the story reels me back into that pool every time. But I just know I’m bigger than the situation, and I hope to help a lot of people by giving my testimony. Not just with the story, but just in life, that we can all overcome addiction.”
Odom has earlier explained his survival as medically extraordinary:
“When I woke up, the doctors told me I’d probably never walk and talk again. So, us having this conversation is a win. All of my doctors say I’m like a walking miracle because of it’s, like, medically impossible for somebody to survive 12 strokes and six heart attacks while in a coma. And so I just take it day by day, and I’m more than grateful for life.”
