How did the London Design Festival Start?
The London Design Festival was first founded in the year 2003 and this year it will celebrate its twentieth-first edition and we could not be more excited about it.
It was first launched by Sir Ben Evans CBE and Sir John Sorrel CBE. Their motivation was to create an annual event that would showcase London’s creativity and draw in educators, great thinkers, retailers, and practitioners from every corner of the country.
The first festival was launched with supporting members from education, government, and design organizations in London. Little did they know that two decades and 600,000 participants in 2019 from over 75 countries later how far this festival would expand.
This event is responsible for the development and growth of the design industry and for putting London on the map for its creative talents. It brings together the best companies and individuals from around the world and people from all walks of life.
London Design Festival 2023
The London Design Festival is going to be held between the 16th to 24th of September in 2023 giving way to host product launches, networking opportunities, talks, and workshops.
It will be held in thirteen districts of London this year. Southwark Design District, Bankside Design District, Shoreditch Design Triangle, Battersea Design District, Park Royal Design District, Brompton Design District, Mayfair Design District, Chelsea Design District, Kings Cross Design District, Dalston to Stokey Design Design District, Islington Design District, Fitzrovia design district, and Greenwich Peninsula.
Since the year of 2009, it has mostly celebrated at the Victoria Albert Museum, their partnership has stayed for fourteen years on this front. In 2022 twelve districts participated and this year around we have a new addition.

This year’s highlights include
“Aura”
An exhibition/installation by Spanish artist Pablo Valbuena will be shown at St. Paul’s Cathedral. It approaches the subject of the meaning of the temple in the modern world and uses light and sound for the creation of contemporary rituals.
“Halo”
by Studio Waldemeyer at St.Stephen Walbrook. It is an installation that boasts of transcended light, a historic masterpiece designed by illustrator Sir Christopher Wren. It is a symbol of London’s resilience from the Great Fire in 1666.
“Spirit of Place”
by Simon Brewster at Strand Aldwych. It was made in collaboration with Amorim, this installation has five large-scale sculptural vessels. it ranges up to 2.5 meters in height and represents Amorim’s cork forest situated at Rio Frio in Portugal.
“Nice to Meet You Again”
by Morag Myerscough and can visited at Shoreditch Design Triangle. It is an urban piece where technology meets tradition. An immersive installation in a style that is bold, colourful, and positive. It is a symbol representing the power of human connection.
“Mandala Lab”
by The Rubin Art Museum at Union Square in Canary Wharf. it evolved from an inspiration of Buddhist principles to challenge difficult emotions and transform them into wisdom.
